Grand Rapids Township Parking

A few weeks ago, I had sent an email out regarding the Grand Rapids Township Parking lot being paved and closed. It happened to rain quite a bit during those days so, the paving was rescheduled to today and thursday.

For families arriving before 5pm, please drop your kids off in the round about on the northern side of the fields (this is part of the courthouse. Parking is available in the Courthouse parking lot after 5pm.

Alliance Families-

Despite some crazy weather conditions, we had a great weekend of play.

The u17 Boys Premier team beat the #3 team in Michigan (Vardar East) 1-0 to jump into 2nd place in in a tight Premier 1! Emrah Cengic's goal and inspired defense from Joe Siebert were keys to the victory.

Coach Zsolt Bertalan led the u13 Boys Premier team to a 4-0 win over the GR Crew. On Sunday, the boys downed the Michigan Wolves 2-1. The Crew and Wolves are ranked #3 and #4 in the state, respectively while the Alliance boys are the team's top ranked team. Great results boys!

Grand Rapids Township will be repaving their parking lot Thursday and Friday May 13th and 14th. Parking will be available after 5pm in the rear parking lot of the Courthouse (off of Knapp). With this change, we should all expect practices to start a few minutes late.

A number of people have asked about the full sized goals that we have used for tournaments and practices. If anyone is interested in purchasing a full sized goal for their back yard, contact Abrahm at 616-284-1844.

Don't forget to pre-register for try-outs. The schedule and preliminary information is posted on the front page of our website. In the next week, we will have additional details posted regarding our 2010/2011 teams, fees, and uniforms.

Important Alliance FC Notes

First, congratulations to the u9 Boys Black on their Nike Soccer Classic Championship last weekend. The boys opened the tournament and ended the tournament with wins over the Chicago Magic (one of the countries top clubs). The final game came down to PKs with Nate Texer coming up with 3 excellent saves to give the boys a much deserved championship.

Uniform note---- It is not acceptable to substitute gear (socks or shorts) for games. I have seen far too many players wearing the wrong socks, the wrong color socks, and the wrong shorts during games. These are substitutes are acceptable during training but, definitely not in games. If you are missing gear, go to www.gralliance.com and follow the gear and uniform page for details on how to order replacement pieces.

Remember to register for try-outs on the front page of the website as well.

Memorial Day Hotels

See the note below from the Pacesetter Housing Coordinator.

This will confirm the availability of 34 doubles/doubles that remain at the Crowne Plaza. There are also 25 king rooms available at the property. Please call 419-241-1411 for reservations and ask to be placed under the Pacesetter Block. They are expecting the calls.

Please call to book your room by this Friday so that they can release the rooms we don't need. I expect that we will have about 60% of our families staying at the Crowne Plaza. Once this is booked, they might make another hotel available for us. Please get this taken care of right away if you already haven't.

Spring Break Soccer

I am looking at organizing 11v11 and 8v8 soccer matches at Davenport University during spring break for those of you in town.

The games would be played at 11:15am and 12:30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We will have combined age groups (u9-u11, u12-u14, u14-u17 for example) that will be dependent on the number of interested players.

The cost would depend upon the number of players interested in joining but, should be around $10 per day.

Please visit the Alliance FC Web Page and complete our quick Spring Break Survey if you are interested in participating. I will need to hear by Thursday or Friday. We will make a decision later on Friday.

With 60 Degree weather forecasted for Wednesday, we are going outdoors for two sessions. 4:30pm-5:30pm we will hold a dribbling and control session and from 5:30pm-6:30pm we will hold a small sided session. Both classes will be held at Douglas Walker Park on 84th Street (1 1/2 miles West of 131). Bring a ball, cleats, and shinguards.

This is a great opportunity for kids to get their cleats on and get ready for the outdoor season.

Super Y National Camp Blog

Increasingly, our players are becoming exposed to soccer at Regional and National levels. These player and team accomplishments are a great sign that the proper work and preparation is being done by Alliance coaches and players. In the past six (6) months alone, our players have attended National ODP Camps, Super Y ODP National Camp, Top Tournaments, and Super Y National Finals. Alliance players u12-u18 are seeing soccer from a much different perspective and we feel it is important for these experiences to be shared. If younger players have the opportunity to hear what it is like to attend a national tournament or camp, they will inevitably be more prepared for that same experience when that opportunity arises in the next few years.

With that goal in mind, you may have noticed that for these events, we have begun to set up blogs for coaches and players to report on their experiences.

Yesterday, four (4) of our Alliance Academy Super Y players kicked off their Super Y National ODP Camp experience in Tampa, Florida. Maddie Pollard, Sophie Maccagonne, Sophie Rammal, and Jenna Winkel will be spending the next few days trying to get the attention of National team coaches. A few players from each camp are invited to be a part of the United States Soccer National Team Camp.

Maddie Pollard has agreed to report through a blog on her experience. We urge you to follow her experiences by visiting www.gralliance.com.

Week #10 Training Review

There have been a few changes to team training and as we continue to work through coaching issues, please continue to understand that we will do our best to make catch every issue and offer the best training for the kids. Overall, Zsolt and I are very excited to see the development of the players and know that the 16 weeks of winter training will pay off this spring.

With that being said, here are some changes to the training schedule. I would encourage you to visit the winter training page to make sure that I haven't missed any changes.

u14 Boys Premier will be training at Excel Charter Academy from 7pm-8pm on Monday.

High School Girls Training - We will need to take next week off or, if you would like to join the u14 training, please let me know.

Great Alliance News!!!

Zsolt and I attended a state director of coaches meeting to determine State Cup seedings and after the dust settled, the coaches agreed that our u13 Boys Academy was the top seed and the u14 Boys MRL was the 4th seed.

These 'recommendations' are passed on to the MSYSA State Cup Committee who will make the final determination but, after hearing a representative from that committee, our understanding is that there will be minor changes that should not affect these age groups.

The fact that we received such high seedings is a sign of great things to come. I can count only a few teams based outside of Detroit that have received a #1 seed in the past ten years and we are definitely the youngest club to have gotten there!!!! In addition, both these teams earned their seeds by beating Nationally ranked teams (u13s beat Vardar in August and u14s beat Wolves in October MRL play).

We have a number of players who are doing very well in the MSYSA State ODP system this winter. If you son/daughter is one of them, we have created a form on the front page for you to let us know the details. We will posting an article in the next week so, please complete the form and let us know.

Finally, we have a number of players travelling to Florida for the Super Y League National Olympic Development Camp. We will have more details on that camp coming soon!

Thursday Goalkeeping Classes and Future Updates

These classes will take place at Excel Charter Academy on Breton (4201 Breton Road Southeast). This was the only location we could secure given Jessica's schedule. She has explained that this will be very technical and low impact.

Tonight I will have an updated schedule with a few minor changes due to Ryan's departure. Please review the winter training page on the website for the final 8 weeks. We should be set for changes after this!

Important Changes for Winter Training

I hope everyone has had a great break and is ready to get back into some intense training! A few notes on this week. We have coaches in transit. I am coming back from my 'B' License course in Florida, Ryan is coming back from vacation, and Zsolt and Jessica have just left for vacation. I believe that Zsolt has already communicated to his teams that he will not be training this week but, everyone coming and going has made scheduling somewhat difficult.

What you will find by going to our Winter Training Page on the website (www.gralliance.com) is an updated training schedule. I still need to connect with Ryan as I may have a session or two of his wrong (time or place). Don't panic, we will get it resolved. The important thing is that we all feel that the adjustments we have made are going to be very beneficial for the kids. We ended up with, after getting feedback what we felt were better times for our extra classes.

That being said, some important notes-

NO COURTHOUSE TONIGHT but, on the 17th we will resume and it will now be open to the club for training!

GOALKEEPERS SHOULD ATTEND FINISHING CLASSES THIS WEEK. With Jessica out of town, we will be finalizing the remainder of the program in the next week.

Training Reminder

Happy New Year!

Just a quick reminder that we do not have any training this week. We still have openings in many groups so, if you have not yet registered for winter training, you are welcome to join. Please give me a call in the next few days.

For those of you who have a balance on the Winter training, please send a check to Alliance FC 6757 Cascade Rd SE #56, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. We will offer a grace period but, if we do not receive your checks by January 7th, a late fee will be added to your account. If you have any issues of what your balance might be, please send an email.

Finally, we will have a revised schedule for training January-March. A few changes have been made to time and location and we are finalizing this in the next few days. While we won't be offering Courthouse this upcoming Sunday, we will be opening the Sunday program as an option for those on an unlimited training program.

Look for an update in the next few days and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Finally, the 2nd payment for winter training are now past due. The final payment is due January 5th. Late payments will now need to include a $10 late fee. To avoid this fee, you are welcome to pay the full balance by Wednesday of this week ($160). Pay by calling 616-284-1844 or bringing a check for full payment to training Monday-Wednesday (give to Zsolt, Ryan, or Abrahm).

Winter Class Cancellations

As a general rule, we do not canel classes on account of inclement weather. We will send an email update by 2pm the day of training if we need to cancel training.
